I believe that we each have a purpose here in this life. Looking back on my short 28 years, I realize and know that my paths have been led.
I was the oldest of 3 singing “Gerber babies,” raised in Logan, Utah. The Gerber genes are great influences through work, play, and music. My parents witnessed my first “real” performance, when I was 4 years old. While eating in a restaurant in California, I stood on a table and sang Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer at the top of my lungs. The patrons around us seemed to enjoy it very much, and thus my parents knew I was meant for the stage. They enrolled me into an internationally known performing group and later private voice lessons. I’ve been entertaining audiences large and small ever since, (however, that was my last tabletop performance!)
After high school I moved to Salt Lake City, Utah. During the day I was an aide for troubled youth and behaviorally challenged children, and at night I would take any opportunity to perform at different venues. One night I got an unexpected call and was offered an opportunity to be a nanny in Las Vegas. Who wouldn’t take that chance? Once again I was found singing Broadway, Gospel, and Opera on many an occasion. But now I know why I was truly sent to Las Vegas...for one BIG reason...that’s where I was to meet my prince charming! Many months after getting married (not in Vegas) we felt the need to move back to Utah to familiar musical circles, which happened to be before the 2002 Winter Olympics.
While my husband was working with 700 drivers for the Olympics, I was able to join hands with performers who were young and old, nationally known as well as locally known, and go to a music business school at the same time. I felt blest to be part of something so spectacular. I had requests from so many in Utah that I decided to record my first CD, and start teaching private voice lessons. When my husband’s job was finished we once again felt the need to move.
This time we were off to Houston Texas where my husband received his Masters Degree. While he was going to school I was fortunate to be a vocal coach for the largest music school in Texas, All About Music, Inc. That year I had a happy baby boy, James. While in Houston I was fortunate t o be with a group of inspiring young women who were in need of a song for a theme. I was inspired to write a song entitled, “Steadfast in Christ.” 21 of them had the awesome opportunity to step foot into the studio and record the song. This experience was very rewarding to see them do something they had never done and might not ever get a chance to do again! After fulfilling our “mission” in Texas, we moved onto other things ahead.
Carthage, Illinois was our next stop where I now reside with my sweet husband, our hansom 4 year old son and beautiful 9 month old daughter. It was a challenge moving from large cities with millions of people to a town of only 2,700. Through the lessons previously learned, I now have the opportunity to influence others through music, with my own music school, Center Stage Music, with a staff of 3. Carthage has taught me a lot, I’ve endured through some of the most heart wrenching experiences I’ve ever encountered, but once again, my path had to be led in order to have lessons learned. If it weren’t for these experiences I wouldn’t have the stories behind the music on my recently released CD with world renowned, concert pianst Marvin Goldstein. I have truly seen miracles in my life, my children’s lives, and others around me. I know that He lives, I know what it’s like to be an instrument in His hand, I know what it’s like to have someone else show up in answer to a prayer, I know that He has unconditional love for EACH of His children.
How thankful I am for this knowledge. My paths have truly been directed and for this I am grateful. I don’t know where my path leads from here but whether it be children, business, or moving to somewhere where we’re needed, I will go with a SONG in my heart!
